National Geographic's Adventure Magazine did a piece on the best swimming holes and one was pretty local to us. Adventure called it Aztec Falls and had directions. The directions proved about 90% reliable but, luckily, we found Rangers identifying trees that had to go because of the bark beetle and they corrected our course. Aztec Falls wasn't the place in the article, it was Deep Creek Falls and wasn't too far from where we were. |

The start of the trail was pretty easy, which was what we were looking for since this was just supposed to be an easy family outing with a one-year-old. |

The flora seemed idyllic to what we expected. It was beautiful and we just meandered up along the trail beside the creek. |

My little football fan. In several places we just stopped to appreciate our surroundings - this included allowing "The Uber" to play on the mini-beaches. |

While the trail was pretty short, we could see why another website gave it an intermediate rating. The easy trail went from well marked to rock hopping to "Good Lord, where did it go?" |

We finally got to the pools. They were beautiful & clear. The water was a little chilly for my bones, so I didn't swim but enjoyed the wading. |

There was another couple with a child doing the trip. The woman continued up solo a little ways to get a glimpse of the actual falls. |

That is the way to the falls. Looks like fun, but not with a family in tow. |

I've seen 'skeeters bigger than the trout but the water was refreshing to the tootsies. |

I don't think Shannon ever determined whether or not she liked it. The trip was fun and a nice little day hike for the first one since becoming parents for the second time. |
