St Andrews West Church in Falkirk (N:56°00.040 /
W:03°47.170). Unlike Stirling and Bannockburn, Falkirk
doesn't have the level of memorials that you might expect. It
makes sense, since this was the site of the Scottish defeat. Not
really knowing where I wanted to go, I went to the tourist information
center and they were most helpful. The coordinates above are from
about half way between the church & visitors center. I guess it's
more the coordinates of ASDA (WalMart). |

Headstone of Sir John Stewart, who died in the Battle of Falkirk on
7/22/1298. His grave site is next to a holly tree. |
 |
The grave of Sir John de Graeme, of
Dundaff, the right-hand-man and friend of William Wallace, who also died
7/22/1298. On his headstone it reads:
"Heir lyes Sir John the Grame, baith wight and wise,
Ane of the cheefs who reskewit Scotland thrise;
Ane better knight not to the world was lent
Nor was gude Grame, of truth and hardiment." |

This huge Celtic cross is one of the monuments in the church yard.
We had to take a picture with it. |
 |
Then we realized that the other side was the ornate side. Oh
well... got a picture anyway. On the way back to Edinburgh, we stopped
in the town of Kingussie (N:57°04.852 /
W:04°03.253) to shop and, more important, find a rest room.
A beautiful little town well worth the stop. |
