We leave Alnwick castle will Alwinton as our next destination I am hoping to get the chance to watch a sheepdog trial planned for this at the Alwinton Show.

We went around in circles for about a ½ hour trying to figure out the directions I had emailed to me. Once that figured out away we went. Long the way we saw a ruin and a church we quickly determine that we go take a look-see.
Shannon is napping Patrick is not really into these ruins so he decides to stay in the mini van with Shannon.
It just John and I we make our way to the church then to the ruin. We discover the ruin of Edlington Castle and an 11th Century church still used today!
England has innumerable ruins of old castles, keeps, etc.. dotting the landscape.  This is the first ruin that we've visited.
Imagine... this was someone's (a very well-off someone's) home almost thousand years ago.
It's obvious that the castle has seen better days.
It looks like someone has done some restoration on the ruin and has reinforced the leaning part to try to keep it from going.
As has happened with most ruins, over the centuries people with surrounding farms have collected a lot of the old stones for use in their fences.
Shades of Amityville? Tiffany.... I think the castle is looking at us...
We really had a lot of fun exploring the ruin.  There were plaques identifying various parts and telling when that piece was built.  After we took this picture Tiffany showed me the warning sign telling people to stay out of it.  Oops...
